Football fans watching Monday night’s San Francisco-Carolina game may have noticed the players donning custom-designed cleats – including a pair worn by 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy supporting a cause he deeply cares about, Samaritan’s Purse.
Thirty-eight 49ers players wore special cleats as part of the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign, which allows players, coaches, and staff to promote causes and nonprofit organizations through uniquely designed cleats featuring the organization’s logos.
This year, NFL players are participating in the campaign in Weeks 12 and 13, which began over the weekend and runs through Thanksgiving weekend. The cleats are then auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting the player’s charity.
It is the second year in a row Purdy has championed Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian ministry that provides disaster relief and humanitarian assistance worldwide. It’s also known for its Operation Christmas Child shoebox project, which sends gift-filled boxes and hope to children in more than 100 countries.
Purdy discussed his cause in a video on the 49ers’ official Instagram page.
“This is important to me because there are so many people who go through natural disasters in our own country, and to have a program that goes out and helps people and gives people hope – I think – is crucial. And I love the people of our country, and anyway we can help out in that regard means a lot to me.”
Samaritan’s Purse CEO Franklin Graham expressed gratitude to Purdy for supporting the ministry.
“I hope @Brock.Purdy13 does well in the game tonight – love to watch him play!” Graham wrote. “We are grateful that Brock chose to highlight the work of @SamaritansPurse in the 2025 #MyCauseMyCleats initiative. Watch for these cleats tonight!”
Last year, Purdy said he chose Samaritan’s Purse because of its relief work to victims of 2024’s Hurricane Helene.
“I just looked at organizations that were on the ground, hands on, helping. Samaritan’s Purse has done that and they are doing that,” he said in 2024. “And so, I chose them and hopefully we can raise some money to go help out people in need with the hurricane relief.”
Purdy is one of the league’s most outspoken Christians.
The 49ers (8-4) defeated Carolina (6-6) in a nationally televised game on ESPN, 20-9.
