On day 1, a man gets a partridge in a pear tree from his love. “I love the tree! And the pears are delicious! And pears are like my fourth or fifth favorite fruit, so this is incredible,” his says to his sweetheart on the phone. “I will say, the bird flying out of the tree…that did startle me just a little bit. I’m just not a bird guy.” Little does he know what he has coming in the next few days!
On day 4, the man has now added four calling birds, three French hens, and two turtle doves to his collection of gifts.
““It’s a little loud in there. I’m just gonna step outside,” he says while holding his phone to his ear. “Hey, I got the calling birds and they’re amazing….they’re all a little messy.” As he says this, he looks inside his house and feathers are flying everywhere. And there is bird poop on the back of his jacket. It appears that he’s starting to get just a tad overwhelmed by the strange gifts!
By the time day 7 rolls around, he now has seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, and five golden rings that have been delivered to him.
“I did get the five golden rings, which is great cause I can pawn those, but then you went right back to the birds,” he says on the phone as he’s pacing back and forth in his kitchen that is covered in bird poop and feathers. “They sure like to scratch, your furniture, your hardwoods, your face! They sure need a lot of shots, too. And permits! Did you know about those?”
The man has now gotten to day 10 and his ten lords a leaping, nine ladies dancing, and eight maids a milking are filling up his house!
“No, you didn’t send birds this time, you sent people. Lots of people. 27 to be exact,” he says to his love on the phone while his living room is crowded with all his new Christmas guests.
“It’s just they’re all a little bit strange. There’s these maids stocking my fridge full of milk, which is fine, but I’m lactose intolerant. And there’s these dancing ladies, it’s just non-stop.” What a comical and chaotic scene!
“I appreciate your heart. Because when people are out there giving normal gifts that you’d find on an Amazon wish list, like the one I sent you…you’re just making it a Christmas unlike any other.
On the 12th day of Christmas, the man pulls up to his house with twelve drummers drumming and eleven pipers piping. “Hey, you there?” he says when his sweetheart picks up the phone. “We’ve got to talk.”
